Governors at Large
2025-2026
The Indiana Chapter has two Governors that serve as our representatives to the Board of Governors at the ACS. They are very interested in hearing members concerns, questions and suggestions. They also keep the Chapter informed with reports and updates about state and national issues.
Stephen Bodney MD, FACS
Governor of the College (2019-2025)
Stephen Bodney is a member of General Surgery Associates of Harrison County in Corydon. He earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and completed residency and internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, TX.Dr Bodney is a Past-President of the Chapter and currently serves as Chair of the Chapter By-Laws Committee.
Dimitrios Stefanidis, MD, FACS
Governor of the College (2025-2027)
Dimitrios Stefanidis, MD, PhD, FACS, FASMBS is a professor of surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine, and serves as the chief of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery and vice chair of education for the Department of Surgery.
Dr. Stefanidis received his medical school degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, and did his doctoral work at the University of Bonn in Germany. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, a surgical simulation research fellowship at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, and his minimally invasive bariatric surgery fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
Dr. Stefanidis joined IU after 10 years at Carolinas Healthcare System in Charlotte, North Carolina where he had helped establish Carolinas Simulation Center, a dually accredited education institute by the ACS and SSH.
