Despite COVID-19, advocacy remains an important component of our activities at the Indiana Chapter. The pandemic and threats of violence at the Statehouse have undoubtedly impacted the legislature in 2021 with reduced visitor throughput and limited committee meetings during the session. A review of the bills proposed in both houses shows that despite the external pressures forced on the General Assembly in early 2021, this session covers issues that could impact all of us. The Chapter has elected to forego an in-person Day at the Capitol Event this year. Rather, we urge members to support the Indiana State Medical Association Physician Advocacy Week from March 15-19. In addition, we encourage mebers to follow the Indiana Physician Coalition ("The Coalition"), a group of 17 physician organizations that includes our Chapter. The Coalition has an agenda that focuses on eliminating scope of practice creep that has allowed non-physician allied health groups greater control of patient care despite less comprehensive training. The Coalition sends emails to highlight a call to action regarding specific bills and provides quick links that generate an email to elected officials.
