Spring 2022 Report


As a quick reminder, there are 12 administrative contractor regions and Wisconsin Physician Services is the current assigned MAC for the J8 district which includes Indiana and Michigan. The most recent meeting took place in February. The meeting included a review of the Local Coverage Determination Draft for two Category III CPT codes that would impact members of the Chapter. Specifically, 0042T represents a cerebral perfusion analysis that neurosurgeons may use to evaluate patients. In addition, 0398T focused on MR guided functional neurosurgery including a unilateral thalatomy used to treat essential tremor and Parkinson’s related tremor. Dr. Selzer connected with Dr. Timmons, the Chair of Neurological Surgery at IU and the neurosurgery specialty Board of Recent for the College. She connected him with Dr. Tom Witt who provided a written comment to WPS which primarily affirmed the proposed LCD with some potential expansion of the technology. Dr. Selzer connected with Dr. Motaganahalli regarding 0254T which focuses on the use of the Gore iliac branch endoprosthesis for bilateral common iliac artery aneurysms. Dr. Motaganahalli confirmed that he would review and send a comment if appropriate. Comprehensive error rate testing, a common element of the meeting agenda, was once again reviewed. This reviews the frequency of errors and types of errors physicians and physician offices commit. The next meeting is scheduled for June 20th. Don Selzer
